New Jersey, however, has sold one of five tickets for $ 1 million to match the first five numbers. Others were sold in North Carolina, Georgia, Missouri and Nebraska.

(This story will be updated if the location of the seller Jersey is known today.)

The jackpot $ 310 million, payable in 30 annual installments, is the fifth largest ever Powerball, and the largest 12 for any lottery in the United States.

All records could fall if the jackpot increases.

Powerball has gone up $ 110 million in just one week, fueled in part by doubling the cost of a ticket for $ 2 on January 15.

It helped that rival Mega Millions has been relatively low. He went up to $ 41 million, $ 30 million in cash, when no match all numbers drawn Tuesday night: 17, 23, 30, 37 and 45 with a Mega Ball 4.

The record for an annuity jackpot of the United States was 390 million, set in March 2007 by Mega Millions. A Cape May County, NJ, couple and a trucker Georgia divide the money: $ 233.1 million.

One drawing ever paid more money: Mega Millions paid $ 240 million (less tax) to two winners in Idaho and Washington State, which hit January 4, 2011. This drawing was the second largest ever cash, $ 380 million.

More than ever Powerball annuity, $ 365 million, won in February 2006 by food-plant workers in Nebraska, has set a record of all time for a victory by a single ticket.

But the money raised winners - $ 177 million - is the highest Powerball.

The new estimate sum payment jumped well beyond $ 193.4 million.

Forty-one states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, offering both Powerball and Mega Millions.
